Coming Spring 2022: Formic Pro
Andermatt is thrilled to bring Formic Pro to beekeepers of the UK. Formic Pro strips are a new solution to help bee keepers in their fight against the ever-increasing pest problem, Varroa destructor.
As more and more people join the bee keeping community, the craft’s popularity increases. The number of hives have grown nationally, particularly in urban areas. This growth means increased distribution of pests and diseases between colonies. As well as affecting general colony health, Varroa is a carrier of many bee diseases that can have a catastrophic impact on your bees.
Developed and manufactured by our friends and partners NOD Europe, Formic Pro mite strips work like MAQS (Mite Away Quick Strips); releasing the active ingredient formic acid vapours that kills both the male and female varroa mites in every life stage.
With a longer treatment period of either 14 or 20 days, Formic Pro facilitates a more gradual release of the active ingredient which ensures high Varroa mite drop from the colony with a milder effect on the bees.
Formic Pro can be applied to the hive while honey is still on the colony. With no withdrawal period, this treatment gives you the option to leave honey on the hives.
Formic Pro strips penetrate under the brood cap, killing the mites where they reproduce.
Formic Pro has a shelf life of 2 years. This gives you potentially 2 whole seasons to use Formic Pro on your colonies.
To apply Formic Pro mite treatment simply remove the strips from the packet and place across the brood nest of a colony that is well ventilated, queen-right and strong. Look at our Formic Pro Instructions PDF to learn how to use Formic Pro on your hives.
